jenna dawn maclellan, Janna Maria Vallee and Lauren Osmond, of SCRATCH invite you to an afternoon of sipping soup and staining silk at articule. Using dye plants which were harvested from articule’s outside planter, participants will learn about the magical and practical world of natural printing on textiles. Throughout the afternoon there will be a presentation, demonstration and workshop where everyone will have the opportunity to eco-print on a silk scarf.
Soup’n’Stain celebrates a no-waste mentality, where one can make a broth from the meat of an onion and dye textiles with its skin, so participants are also invited to bring spices, flowers, leaves and other items from home (see list below) to create a more diverse colour palette on their scarves.
COST: $10 (for this deal you get a silk scarf and a bowl of soup courtesy of Ta Chido !)
REQUIREMENTS: Bring a plastic bag to take home your wet scarf!
ALSO BRING ANY OF THE FOLLOWING MATERIALS TO USE TO DYE YOUR SILK:
FROM THE KITCHEN: onionskins, beets, black beans, pomegranate skin, carrot tops
FROM THE SPICERACK: saffron, turmeric, sage (or sage leaves)
FROM YOUR TEA STASH: black tea, chamomile tea, hibiscus tea (or flowers) FROM THE GARDEN: lavender, marigold
FROM NATURE: oak, maple, sumac, birch, eucalyptus
