On the occasion of the exhibition Mareikura, articule and The HTMlles Festival have the pleasure to present a discussion with Montreal-based, interdisciplinary artist Emilie Monnet, who will engage Reihana in a discussion about her work, and the theme of indigenous prophecies. The talk will be followed by a Q&A, and the exhibition opening.
Lisa Reihana has carried out numerous artist residencies and her work has been shown in exhibitions and at arts fairs around the world, including: Native Portrait at the Museo Laboratorio di Arte Contemporanea, Rome, Italy; Global Feminisms at the Brooklyn Museum, New York, USA; Pasifika Styles, Museum of Archaeology & Anthropology, Cambridge, England; the Asia-Pacific Triennial at Queensland Art Gallery, Brisbane, Australia; and the Liverpool Biennale, England. She has undertaken numerous public art commissions, including a series of Maori Commissions with Henriata Nicholas, her co-founder at Kupenga Design. Digital Marae was short-listed for the Aukland Art Gallery’s Walters Prize (2008), and the Anne Landa Digital Art Award at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Australia (2009).
Emilie Monnet is an interdisciplinary artist with Anishnabe and French heritage based in Montreal. Combining theatre, performance and media arts forms, her work explores the interconnections between identity, memory, imagination and language; telling stories that weave the symbolic realms of dreams and mythology -- both personal and collective. A graduate of Ondinnok's theatre training program in partnership with the National Theatre School of Canada, she founded Onishka Productions in 2011.
