Between simple and sophisticated technics, between the commercial and underground scene, amongst a diversified audience, can drawing be considered as popular art?
Ève De Garie-Lamanque is Curator of Contemporary Art of the Musée régional de Rimouski. A graduate of Concordia University (MA, 2008), her thesis examined the aesthetic of the anonymous trace within the work of Betty Goodwin and Christian Boltanski. De Garie-Lamanque first distinguished herself as Exhibition and Publication Coordinator at Art Mûr gallery, as well as an independent curator and arts writer. The exhibition Memento Mori / Bone Again, which she co-curated, made it to Mariam Nader’s top 3 exhibitions of 2011 in Canadian Art. Voir Montreal critic Nicolas Mavrikakis singled her out as the up-and-coming curator to watch out for in 2010.
Martin Lord
Born in Ste-Thérèse, Québec in 1974, Martin Lord studied Visual Arts at UQAM. After spending a short time at the School of Decorative Arts in Strasbourg, he has since split his time between Québec and France. He has participated in numerous shows in France and Canada including solo exhibitons at Galerie Vanessa Quang, Paris and the Centre Clark, as well as a residency and exhibition at AXENÉO7. A limited edition of his drawings was acquired by the artothèque of Cahors in France.
François Morelli
François Morelli is a Montreal-based multidisciplinary artist holding a BFA from Concordia University (1975) and a Masters of Fine Arts from Rutgers University, New Jersey. From 1981 to 1991, he lived and taught in New York where he accomplished several graphic and sculptural installations, as well as migratory actions that led him across Nord America, Europe and North Africa.
Morelli has exhibited internationally in museums, private galleries, artist-run centres and contemporary art events in Canada, the United States and Europe since 1976. Notable exhibitions include those held at the Musée du Québec (1979), the Musée d’art de Joliette (1980), the Musée Régional de Rimouski (1988), the Centro Culturale Canadese (Italie, 1989), The Painted Bride Art Centre (Philadephia, 1989), the Horodner Romley Gallery (New York, 1994 and 1995), at La Vitrine (France, 2004) as well as Joyce Yahouda Gallery (Montreal, 2006 and 2008). In 2007, he presented major installations at the Atlanta Contemporary Art Centre and at Hamilton Art Gallery. Morelli also participated in the Biennale de Montréal (2002) the Biennale du Havre in France (2006 and the Quebec Triennial (2011).
Morelli as being awarded the Prize, by Biennale de dessin, de l’estampe et du papier du Québec in 1989 and the Louis Comtois Prize, by the City of Montreal in collaboration with the Association des galeries d’art contemporain (AGAC) in 2007. In 2011, François Morelli was awarded a residency at the Conseil des arts et lettres du Québec’s studio in New York City.
François Morelli’s work is represented by Joyce Yahouda Gallery.
Jason Saint-Laurent
Originally from Moncton, Jason St-Laurent (b. 1974) is an artist and curator currently residing in Ottawa. He studied Visual Arts at the University of Moncton and the University of Toronto and has exhibited in Canada, the United States, South Africa, Romania, Denmark and Finland. He has exhibited at MUU (Helsinki), The South African National Gallery Annex (Cape Town), The Ottawa Art Gallery and VertexList (New York). As a curator and programmer, he has presented more than 60 projects worldwide, including SCATALOGUE: 30 years of crap in contemporary art at the Galerie SAW Gallery, Voices in Transit at Cape Town’s Central Station, and International Media Art Videogram Exchange (Ottawa, Helsinki, Tallinn). From 2006 to 2011, he worked as Director of Programming of Inside Out Toronto LGBT Film Festival. He is currently the curator of the artist-run centre Galerie SAW Gallery in Ottawa.
