When the Mountains Move is a material based research-exhibition that develops from the study of the indigenous Mexican Zapatista movement as a living example of resistance against capitalism, and as a social body that practices hope and resonates locally and internationally. Particularly, this exhibition focuses on the role of women in this movement as they have also been the force and the core of another fight: the fight against patriarchy. A resistance within the resistance. The exhibition includes four artworks that connect fiction with the creation of knowledge, while establishing an imaginary and relational dialogue between women.
Amanda Ruiz Méndez is a Mexican artist based in Montreal. Her work incorporates different modes of collectiveness, from art teaching to participatory performances and activism. She considers social mobilization as a fundamentally creative process where art occupies the public space while cultivating collective memory.

Cuando las montañas se mueven es una investigación teórico- plástica que estudia el movimiento indígena zapatista en México, como un ejemplo vivo de resistencia contra el capitalismo, y como un cuerpo social que pone en practica la esperanza de manera constante, lo cual ha generado resonancia local e internacionalmente. Esta exposición se enfoca en el papel de las mujeres dentro del movimiento, pues son ellas el corazón de otra lucha: la lucha contra el patriarcado. Una resistencia dentro de la resistencia misma. Las cuatro piezas que se incluyen en la exposición, encuentran entre la producción de conocimiento y la ficción, el lugar idóneo para establecer diálogos imaginarios y relacionales entre mujeres.
Amanda Ruis Méndez es una artista mexicana radicada en Montreal. Su trabajo incorpora diferentes modalidades de colectividad; tales como la enseñanza del arte, el performance participativo y el activismo. Ella considera la movilización social un proceso fundamentalmente creativo, donde el arte ocupa el espacio público para cultivar la memoria colectiva.
