As part of the exhibition COVEN RING by Marigold Santos, articule has the pleasure to present a discussion between the artist and curator and critic Zoë Chan. In this informal discussion/guided tour, Marigold Santos and Zoë Chan will discuss key themes in Santos' work (hybrid identity, immigration, narrativity) and how these inform and influence her art practice.

Discussion will be in English. Translation to French will be available.
Free. Open to all.

Marigold Santos pursues an interdisciplinary art practice involving drawn and printed works, sculpture, animation, and sound. Her imagery arises from folklore of East and West, pop culture, science, and personal myth reconfigured into the supernatural, and considers the particular experience of migration and the fragmented/multiple self. She holds a BFA with Honours from the University of Calgary, and completed her MFA at Concordia University in Montréal, Québec, in 2011. She is a recipient of numerous awards such as the Faculty of Fine Arts Fellowship (Concordia) and, in 2013, was the recipient of a grant from the Conseil des arts et lettres du Québec (CALQ). Her work has been featured in solo exhibitions in Parisian Laundry’s Bunker Space, at ACE art in Winnipeg, the Khyber Center for the Arts in Halifax and, most recently, in an exhibition at Truck Gallery in Calgary. Upcoming projects include exhibitions at the ODD Gallery in Dawson City, Yukon, and Forest City Gallery in London, Ontario. She currently resides and practices in Montréal, Québec.

Zoë Chan is based in Montreal. She has a Master’s degree in Art History from Concordia University (2008). In 2012, she curated Personal Mythologies featuring artists Osvaldo Ramirez Castillo and Marigold Santos, which was presented at the MAI (Montréal, arts interculturels). She is recipient of the Canada Council Project Grant to Curators and Critics. In 2014, she will guest curate an exhibition on artists who engage with notions of youth for the Foreman Art Gallery of Bishop's University. As critic, she has written reviews for Canadian Art, C Magazine, esse, and ETC.
