Join artist-run centre articule for the third edition of Montreal Monochrome (MMIII), an event which aims to address the underrepresentation of indigenous people and people of colour in the arts milieu in Montreal.

For the first time, Montreal Monochrome is taking place over a full day, at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, BWR Hall, on Saturday, May 2nd, 2015 from 10AM to 5PM.

This year’s edition of Montreal Monochrome will explore the theme of “authenticity.” By considering this subject, we wish to complicate discourses surrounding race and representation. We would like to invite discussion on the notion of an “origin” as a stable and true centre, examining incidents of racist appropriation while also examining the act of remixing, altering, repeating and (re)producing knowledge. Additionally, we invite reflection on the sometimes empowering and sometimes necessary act of shifting one’s perspective away from an absolute, while also acknowledging contexts in which it seems vital to per-form the authentic.

Hosted by Nantali Indongo, MMIII will include a panel discussion, workshops, performances, and presentations by Yassin "Narcy" Alsalman, Mounia Benalil, Nadia Bunyan, Craig Commanda, Zab Maboungou, and Winnie Superhova. Program and more details to follow.
