Discussion between Anne-Marie Ninacs and Sarah Pupo about the exhibition In the Night Room presented at articule from January 17 to February 23, 2014.

Anne-Marie Ninacs is a professor of art theory at the UQAM School of Visual and Media Arts. She is also completing a doctorate in Art History at the Université de Montréal. Her work focuses on the re-writing of subjectivity in the creative process within Art History discourse. Ninacs was the curator of Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal 2011: Lucidity. Inward Views, curator of contemporary art for the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, curator at the Musée d’art de Joliette, as well as being responsible for the programming of Les commensaux at the Centre des arts actuels SKOL in Montréal (together with Patrice Loubier) and curator, of various titles, for many other exhibitions. In 2005, Ninacs was awarded the UQAM Prix Reconnaissance for her commitment to the arts in Québec.

Sarah Pupo lives and works in Montréal where she recently completed her MFA at Concordia University. Her practice integrates aspects of painting and drawing, installation and self-taught, provisional animation techniques. Her approach to making things prioritizes intuition, ritual, associative thinking and the flux of chance and control.

Recently, she was artist in residence at Kolin Ryynanen (Koli, Finland) and KIAC (Dawson City, Yukon) and screened animations in New York (Mix 26) and Montreal (Meta Wired Women Salon #11). Upcoming projects include a collaborative animation show at the Fofa Gallery (Montreal) and a residency at SIM (Reykjavik, Iceland).
