stéphanie beaulieu

Stephanie Beaulieu is an multidisciplinary artist who lives and works in Montreal. After more than 10 years working in the advertising industry, she started a BFA in Studio Arts at Concordia University that she completed in England at Newcastle University in 2011. Within an installation-based practice, her work questions our individual role in how others define themselves.

By observation and comparison we confirm the correctness of our feelings. This inter-reaction helps us grow intellectually, understand ourselves but is also the basis of public opinion and its pressure to comply with. The social grid we are living in and part of can be oppressive and restrictive but is essentially our individual responsibility. By extension we can extend this reflexion to social identity, or more specifically its value system. In order to illustrate this common quest, the artist abolishes social classes or gender differences in collecting social interactions. The results are more pointing out the differences within the similarities.
