Most of David Miles’ work over the past few years has been composed of cut-card pieces and mobiles, all bearing a strong narrative element. Some works stem from personal stories, some are inspired by local news items, and others reveal more generic observations. The narrative structure within the mobiles gradually unfolds through the slow movements of the pictoral elements and their shadows cast on the walls, thus encouraging different readings of an original story. For his exhibition at articule, David Miles will produce new work around stories collected from local residents during his short stay in Montreal, where he distributed flyers based on a series of watercolour paintings throughout the Mile End neighbourhood. The exhibition will provide a meeting place for the different interpretations of the collected stories, exploring how different narratives can bleed into one another, oscillating between facts and fiction.

David Miles is a visual artist who lives in Brighton, England. His work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in London, San Francisco, Amsterdam, Buenos Aires, amongst other places.
