At the heart of Kelly Richardson’s work, lies an interest in creating contemplative spaces which inspire a series of conflicting sensations, eliciting dread and fascination in equal measure. Her video installations adopt the use of cinematic language to investigate notions of constructed environments and the blurring of the real and the unreal. Riding the line between fact and fiction, the video installation Exiles of the Shattered Star consists in a sustained view of a mountain landscape in the early-morning hours, in which flaming nuggets, much like meteorites, steadily drift down from the sky, softly splashing into the water of the lake. Evoking a hypnotic and apocalyptic image, Exiles of the Shattered Star suggests that the world might end in silence, not with a bang but with a whisper.
