The Agony and the Ecstasy is the story of Michelango's struggle to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.  Adapted from the book of the same name by Irving Stone, The Agony and the Ecstasy is a true "classic" in the genre of movies about artists.  The battle of wills between Michelangelo (Charlton Heston) and Pope Julius II (Rex Harrison) is played out in all it's real and imagined drama... Michelangelo:  a sculptor who didn't want to paint... Pope Julius II:  a better soldier than a pope... witness historical recreations of marble quarrying! Thrill to the spectacle of fresco painting! Feel your heart race as the greatest artistic genius in history is outed by a prostitute, sort of!  Yes, it's all here in glorious Tod-AO and typically bombastic and dated acting. As an added bonus to this screening, articule member, film and art history enthusiast Graham Hall will be providing live commentary on the various events and personages depicted in the film. Audience participation encouraged!  But don't speak with your mouth full, because soup will be on offer, generously donated by the fine folks at le Boui Boui!
